The beginnings of a legend

Ferruccio Lamborghini was born in Renazzo, located in the province of Emilia Romagna, on April 28, 1916.

He came from an affluent farming family that was involved in livestock breeding and agricultural production; both his father as well as his grandfather were bold, resourceful individuals who worked hard.

His father Antonio tried to impart his own bond with field work and the rural, agrarian culture of the era to his son, but with little success, as from the start the young man preferred to dedicate himself to other manual tasks.

When he was in elementary school, coming back from lessons, Ferruccio used to take refuge in a small workshop that he had created in a wing of a small stable on the family estate, where he tried his hand at creating objects for domestic and agricultural use.

He forged a strong bond in those years with a teacher from his school, who used to visit the boy in his workshop after lessons.

According to my father, one day Teacher came to visit me in my “little workshop”.

In silence he watched me work for a while, then he took a piece of coal from the fireplace and wanted me to leave him alone.

After a short while, he called me, indicating with a nod of his head what he had drawn on a wall: a large vine leaf. In astonishment, I read an inscription next to the drawing:

And if you work willingly, the fruit will come after the leaf.

He disappeared into the fog as silently as he had appeared.

It was 1926…I was 10 years old at the time, and the meaning of that phrase became clear to me many years later.

What kind of child was Ferruccio?

The answer to this question can be found in the two works created by Giovanni Motta in honor of Lamborghini.

Motta is an Italian artist who carries out his personal artistic quest by focusing on the theme of rediscovering the inner child and the dynamics of destiny.

In his works, he identifies this inner child as a character called JonnyBoy, depicted with a cartoon-like character design.

In creating the works honoring Ferruccio, Giovanni has attempted to empathize with the man’s childhood by identifying two emotional states that, in his view, reflect the entrepreneur’s spirit.

Fear versus Courage

The first NFT focuses on courage in close proximity to fear, depicting the animated image of a bull attempting to overpower the child.

It is a work which mirrors Ferruccio’s fearless spirit and is meant to honor the great courage this man had throughout his life.

The courage in standing up for his true passion, going against his father’s wishes…

The courage in daring to start a tractor company after the war…
And ultimately, the courage in entering a sector as competitive as that of sports cars — which in those times was ruled by large established brands such as Ferrari and Maserati — like a charging bull.

Inspiration and energy source

The second work focuses on the theme of the child’s inspiration.

Motta imagines a gift given to Ferruccio by a person dear to him, such as his elementary school teacher.

The artist wanted to depict the resourcefulness that allowed Ferruccio to achieve countless successes throughout the course of his life, succeeding in transforming his name into a legend destined to last forever.

Owning Giovanni Motta’s works means having the digital embodiment of the resourceful spirit that distinguished Ferruccio from a young age.
